Here is a video from Awa Day!
Thank you Mrs Witherford for taking the photos and putting together this slide show.
We had so much fun, doing different activities, being curious, collaborating and experience joy with our groups :)
We were so lucky to have Skippers come in to work with us yesterday in Hays. They worked hard to plan workshops to teach us new skills. They were amazing mentors sharing their knowledge and letting us explore new activities.
"There was a mother and some kids and the Penguin and the lake and some builders. They made a lake for Pepper the Penguin up on the mountain" said Keira Wise
"We made tents out of people and we helped the little Penguin go into a nice little lake just for her. The builders helped" said Frankie Proffit
"We had to learn how to make diggers and how to make a big lake. We had to hold hands together" said Reilly Topp
"It's nice doing stuff on the stage and sometimes it's a little bit scary" said Kora Judd
"It was fun standing up on the stage and talking on the microphone and you will like it" said Archie Grimmer
"Before the show you get a bit nervous because lots of people will be in front of us" said Liv Carter
"I liked making the lake by holding hands" said Norah O'Connell
"I liked making the diggers. The diggers made the lake. Pepper needed a lake to swim in" said Fraser Elder
"My job was holding the microphone for the people to speak in to. it was a hard job because I needed to stay kneeling for a long time" said Thea Cosgrove
"My job was one of the speakers. I told the story of Lake Alta" said Cooper Buchanan
"My job was one the characters, Sam Alta. It was good because I had two kids" said Eoghan Meharg
This week in Hays we have been learning how to 3D print. We draw our shape and take a photo. Then we send it to the computer and then to the 3D printer. I wonder what we are going to make? Keep an eye on the blog to see what we create!
Your child is working hard this week to create an invitation for you to come along and hear all about their learning. Check their book bag for more information.
The final event for Book Week will be Dress Up as Your favourite Book Character day. This will take place on Thursday the 2nd of November and we will have a parade and photo session in the gym from 9:10am. Let your creativity flow with your costume. Below are some ideas from last year.
Finally, you are welcome to come along to both events.
So much Joy was had last Wednesday (and Monday afternoon) when the Juniors got together to take part in Athletics sports. Thanks to all the supporters, the kids love having you watch them.
A very special welcome to our new mentors in Hays.
Miss Emily is joining us for the term from the USA, and Miss Riley is on placement from the University of Otago and will be with us for a couple of weeks.
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday) is Junior Athletics Day.
Here are some of the details about the day.
Your child can come dressed in suitable clothing for athletics in the colour that represents their Awa group if possible. If you are unsure what Awa group your child is in, it is the same colour as their school Sunhat.
Athletics runs from 10.30 till the end of the day and you are welcome to come along and support the children.
Ice Cream Available
Men-Love Berries Real Fruit Ice Cream is going to be available to purchase during Junior Athletics Day. You are welcome to purchase an ice cream throughout the day. Kids will be able to buy an ice cream during the lunch break. The cost is $5 a tub.
We are looking forward to a day of Joy and Growth Mindsets in action.
Today we had a special visitor from Altrusa. Anita came to read a story to us and donated the book to our school library. Then we went to the hall and worked on our fine motor skills. We had lots of fun collaborating with each other and learning new skills.
For the up and coming Jump Jam Extravaganza performance next Tuesday 19th September (1.50pm) we are looking for novelty glasses for the children to wear.If you have one pair (or many pairs) we would love to borrow them. We will look after them and make sure they are returned to you. Please bring along to school from Tuesday 12th September and give to Milly. Thanks
Got any great photos from last week's ice skating?
Send them through to one of the mentors so they can be added to a wee video we are working on to share with you on the blog, of our awesome week of learning on the ice!
Over the past few weeks the children have had the choice to join in with the Hays Habitat Jump Jam (dance) groups. Here is the music for 'Funky Town' and 'Afro Circus'. Your child should be able to tell you which group they are in - Thanks
Check out the collaboration and joy in Hays, yesterday as we worked together to create vehicles using our bodies. This drama technique is called group sculpture.
